My name is Ciara Durham and I am the owner and creator of the Potting Shed which has evolved from my love of gardening, nature, beautiful flowers and seasonal cooking. The Potting Shed is surrounded by beautiful countryside. My main champions and supporters are Simon my husband, my children Abby, Pippa and Toby who are now all in their 20’s. We all enjoy our 4 dogs, Bono, Pixie, Maggie and Ozzie who wander in and out of my studio happily greeting my friends and customers. I’m also the owner of countless hens who provide me with lovely eggs and a couple of horses and ponies who look out over the fences at me daily.

My garden is a place I can truly escape and I have filled it with beautiful scented flowers grown mostly from seed. My time spent in the garden is always satisfying as to me there is nothing as forgiving as a garden. There is a natural optimism in designing, planting, weeding or digging holes because I can always imagine what my garden will look like in the future.

My motto is do what you can, when you can, with what you have got. You don’t have to do it all at once as a garden never has to be perfect. It can be as simple as a window box with pollinator friendly flowers to an extensive garden which has evolved over many years of love. My garden has been 20 years in the making and I still have great plans and ideas for it.

With the smallest piece of earth you can create something beautiful. I encourage my friends and clients to try their hand at gardening and enjoy all the gifts that it brings. With the Potting Shed I can be part of creating someone else’s future garden and this brings me immense joy.

Cooking for friends and family with ingredients that I have grown or foraged is incredibly satisfying, so one of my favourite places to wile away countless hours is my poly tunnel. In a time where it appears you can get whatever you want at any time of the year I think it’s more important than ever to grow and harvest with the seasonal calendar. Like buying for the shop I also only grow flowers and vegetables that I love in shades and tones that I love but I think they make the most beautiful natural arrangements.
My year starts in January perusing seed catalogues, it moves on to sowing seeds under cover for transplanting to the garden in late spring and one of my favourite pastimes is waiting with anticipation for my snowdrops to pop their heads above the soil they remind me that spring and warmer days are on their way.

After years of working outside the home for big brands and multinationals there is no feeling to compare with walking across the yard to my little studio which is now open for everybody to enjoy. When the joy or sadness of an occasion is captured in the beauty of flowers which I have lovingly arranged and I see the expression on my customers faces I know I truly am in my happy place.
